From the mayor's desk - Scott Manjak column - Past, Present and Future
Kootenay News Advertiser - October 14, 2009
I was speaking with my Dad the other evening. Like most conversations in Cranbrook these days, ours turned toward the East Hill Boundary referendum. Dad is an active member in the seniors’ community and his views provide some insight for me, as Mayor, on how seniors are feeling on this important topic for our community. A frequent question, and perhaps the one of greatest concern to our seniors, is the one regarding taxes and what effect these lands will have on our tax base if they become part of Cranbrook. First and foremost, your municipal property taxes will not be affected if the East Hill is incorporated into the City. In fact, when the inevitable development does occur on these lands, it will actually, over time, increase the City’s tax base, as long as these lands are part of our community.

Letter to the Editor - Get the facts
The Daily Townsman - September 29, 2009
Wow! There have been some very interesting opinions written on the East Hill Boundary expansion lately. What concerns me is that the opinions seem to be less about the topic at hand, and more about things that have nothing to do with the expansion. I'm worried that many people are not taking the time to look at the opportunity and instead are just listening to the person that approached them at SuperStore with a form to sign. I am frightened that citizens of Cranbrook will not take the time to get the facts and we will miss a huge opportunity!
